Crohn’s Disease (CD) is an inflammatory disease of the digestive tract.  It can affect any part of the digestive tract from mouth to anus.  Most commonly it affects the small and or large intestine. 

Symptoms of CD are dependant on its location, and include:

• chronic diarrhoea
• abdominal pain
• vomiting or constipation caused by severe inflammation that blocks the digestive tract.
• fever
• anorexia (loss of appetite)
• weight loss
• abdominal tenderness
• faeces may contain blood and or mucous and the colour can be very pale and float.
• anaemia
• stunted growth in children
• ulcers or abscesses around the anus or fistulas (small holes in the wall of the bowel or rectum).
• unexplained joint pain

 

While all the contributing factors resulting in Crohn’s disease are still being investigated, many studies show that inflammation due to infection from bacteria, yeasts, viruses and or parasites are a major factor in its development.  Crohn’s disease responds very well to dietary modification, herbal medicine and specific nutrients.
